An artistic journey into the world of counterculture, the times of the identity crisis and cultural revolution from the late 1960s and the early 1970s. Starting from the lyrics of John Lennon’s Imagine, Krystian Lupa raises the question of the viability of utopian ideas in a world where spirituality has been commercialised or politicised, and humanistic values, human rights, equality as well as individual freedom have been devalued.
The director returns to the psychological and spiritual phenomenon of the New Age movement and the life and work of John Lennon, who as the ‘new Christ’ of the hippie era campaigned for a world without wars, states, or borders, without hatred or property, but also without religion. Do visions straight from the New Age worldview sound nothing but naive these days? Do the chances of spiritual transformation increase in times of crisis?
