Situation with Outstretched Arm
Hauptaktion GbR (Munchen/Germany)

Situation with Outstretched Arm deals with the (art-) history of a contaminated gesture: the saluto romano, the Olympic salute, the Bellamy salute, the German salute, the Hitler salute. This gesture – a symbol that was captured in paintings, popularized in theatre, and again and again rendered instrumental by nationalist movements – constantly hovers over an ambiguous territory between artistic and political action. The creators of this performance therefore provoke a discussion on how we deal with the non-material heritage of our collective past. This is a duet for one performer and one voice, a study with footnotes on the politics of art and the art of politics.

Situation with Outstretched Arm is political theatre at its finest. It is informative as well as hard-hitting to make the audience think about the past and the future simultaneously.

Running time: 50 minutes (without interval)
