Marusya
Dialogue Dance (Kostroma/Russia)

This solo performance was born as a joke: what if the main and the only performer is not a professional dancer, but somebody who has always been backstage? What if Marusya Sokolnikova, the PR manager of STANTSIA Art Venue, shows up and reveals an insider’s whole truth about contemporary dance? The joke evolved into discussions and a laboratory, after which full-scale rehearsals followed…

The result is a performance in which a ‘common office worker’ hits the stage and tells stories about her work through words and movement. She acts out her life situations, shares her experience and asks questions which go far beyond dance. If we were to put it in one sentence, it would be something like: “Why do we keep doing what we are doing?” It is not about being bored or about obsessive introspection. It is a step which every one of us must take. At least once.

Running time: 1 hour 10 minutes (without interval)
