City stages

Drama workshops for participants of the Independent 18-18 project and students of the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy Directing Department in Warsaw

Everything that happens around can serve as material for a playwright and a stage for theatre audience.

Every place in the city bears witness to scenes belonging to theatre – everyday dramas of its residents. During the workshop its participants will be trying to redefine reality and theatre itself as direct, authentic and based on local experience.

The workshops will be run by Aljoscha Begrich.

Aljoscha Begrich is a dramatist and stage designer born in Bratislava in 1977. He studied the history of art, philosophy and cultural studies in Berlin, Buenos Aires and Mexico City. After working as stage designer in theatres, such as Staatstheater in Stuttgart and Oper in Dortmund, in 2010, he started working continuously in different projects for Rimini Protokoll (Volkswagen Volksrepublik /The People’s Car and the People’s Republic; Bodenprobe Kasachstan /Soil Sample from Kazakhstan; and Truck Tracks Ruhr. Between 2009 and 2014 he worked for Schauspiel in Hannover as dramatist, then at the Gorki Theatre in Berlin where worked with Hans Werner Kroesinger, Lola Arias, Ersan Mondtag and Oliver Frljic in the same capacity. He co-curated several festivals, including the 2nd and 3rd Berliner Herbstsalon and has given workshops in Tehran, Cluj, Munich and elsewhere.
