Launching a special issue of the journal Litteraria Copernicana.

The idea behind this issue edited by Toruń-based theatrologists, Artur Duda and Marzenna Wiśniewska, is to give an overview of the 25 years of the Kontakt International Theatre Festival (the anniversary celebrated in 2016) with special focus on those directors whose presence provoked the most heated discussions on the aesthetic changes theatre underwent at the turn of the century. The researchers contributing to this issue of the journal focused on the following theatre international directors: Frank Castorf, Piotr Cieplak, Oskaras Koršunovas, Jerneys Lorenci, Eimuntas Nekrošius, Christoph Marthaler, Rimas Tuminas, Monika Strzępka and Paweł Demirski, Ivan Vyrypaev, and Thomas Ostermeier. The articles included some valuable insight to new approaches to acting, repertoire changes, reality, disillusionment, actor- audience communication strategies, performativity, musicality as well as theatre’s social impact. With the 100th anniversary of the Polish theatre in Toruń approaching, two outstanding stage directors and managing directors are recalled: Wilam Horzyca, the patron of the dramatic theatre in Toruń and Krystyna Meissner.
